Metro Board Authorizes Cost Sharing Agreement To Repair The Famous Hollywood Walk of Fame

The Metro Board of Directors recently approved the execution of the cost sharing agreement with the Hollywood Historic Trust to facilitate ongoing maintenance, repairs and replacement to the Hollywood Walk of Fame.  The Metro Board has agreed to fund $1.5-million towards the cost of repairs in the vicinity of the Hollywood/Highland and Vine Stations on the Metro Red Line.

In April 2008, the Metro Board of Directors instructed the Chief Executive Officer to take a leadership role in repairs to the terrazzo sidewalks that make up the Walk, and to submit a funding plan subject to Board approval.  The total cost of the repairs is approximately $4.1 million.  The  Los Angeles City Council approved $500,000 in CRA tax increment funding in March 2010, coming from the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce and the Hollywood Historic Trust.  Efforts are continuing to raise the funds needed for the project.

The terrazzo sidewalk on Hollywood Blvd. near the intersection of Hollywood Blvd. and Highland Ave. has been terrible disrepair ever since the Metro line was completed.  Part of the terrazzo has buckled and other parts have large cracks making it difficult to walk without sustaining an ankle injury.\
